Patient Advocacy
Navigating the healthcare system is challenging. It is common to feel lost and overwhelmed
especially if you have a diagnosis that has changed your life. It is easy to get lost in the shuffle
and not receive the care that you need. I have personally experienced the frustrations of the
health care system, poor provider practice, and insurance (health and disability) company red
tape nuances. Daily, I hear the troubles that my colleagues in healthcare have when they seek
medical care. This makes me wonder how anyone navigates these complex systems and
advocate for themselves when they do not have the healthcare training that I or my colleagues
are fortunate to have.
This is why it is important to have someone on your side to directly advocate for you, assist you
with navigating the complexities of health care, educate you on your diagnosis, provide
questions to ask your provider, or simply point you in the right direction.
Patient advocacy services may include but are not limited to health education, medical
diagnosis and treatment education, assistance with navigating health care systems, assistance
with health insurance and disability insurance issues, and acting as your advocate with your
healthcare provider.
